Unlocking uses Stripe and a small licensing check. Neither ever receives your chat history — only your payment and an unlock code.

Questions at the border
- Is this allowed?
- Yes. Move My Chat only reads the data export that every major AI assistant offers in its own settings, a feature privacy laws like GDPR require. It never logs in to your account, never scrapes, and never touches the provider’s servers.
- Why can’t it just connect to my account?
- No consumer AI subscription offers an API for chat history, so a tool promising a one-click account connection would have to scrape your logged-in session. That breaks every provider’s terms, and it breaks technically every few weeks. The export file is the honest, durable route.
- What exactly do I get?
- A zip with one folder per project (its knowledge files plus conversation transcripts as Markdown), a folder of standalone conversations, a starter prompt to paste into your new assistant, and step-by-step import instructions for your destination.
- Which assistants work today?
- Reads exports from ChatGPT and Claude. Builds packs with tailored import instructions for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok. Reading Gemini and Grok exports is on the roadmap.
- Does my new assistant really pick up where the old one left off?
- It reads your imported history as project knowledge, so it knows what you were working on, what you decided, and how you like to work. It won’t be a perfect clone of the old thread, but it beats starting from a blank chat and re-explaining everything.
- How big an export can it handle?
- The whole conversion runs in your browser’s memory, so it depends on your machine. Exports in the hundreds of megabytes are generally fine, and very long single conversations are split into parts automatically so your new assistant can accept them.
